Merry Christmas to me...

It's hard to feel good about Christmas when one by one the flu picks off the members of your family with the accuracy of a military trained sniper.

The day school let out, we went to spend the evening with a friend, S. S's daughter M, goes to school with Ian. While I stayed later than bedtime for the kids, to help pick up the toys the kids had spread everywhere... My son got sick and threw up all over the living room and dining room as he raced to the bathroom where there was a child already using the facilities. So thinking of the carpet.. I put him into the kitchen so at least he would be on a surface that was easier to clean...  Thank God S, has a rug cleaner. (and while I know People cant help when they get sick, and I would not be angry if someone was sick at my house, Its hard not be somewhat embarrassed)  After we left M got sick, too, we think it was going around school.

We had our usual Christmas Eve family get together on the 23rd Saturday night, at which I was wearing a brand new bargain skirt and Jamie threw up all over me, and my new skirt. thank god we had gone in our regular clothes and I had taken another set of clothes.

On Christmas Eve we spent the day with Scott's brother, and I spent the day sitting in a cozy chair concentrating heavily on big breath in... nothing comes back up... I managed not to vomit, but i was still sick.. didn't eat for about 48 hours.

Late on Christmas Day I finally felt well enough to go to my Mom's house about 4 pm .. and on the way home my husband  was hit with bug....

It picked us off one by one and being the last two hit Hubby and I where tired and sore and worthless while the kids where already starting to feel better.

It didn't seem much like Christmas having spent it n a blur of nausea. And to add insult to injury our live tree would not drink its water and it dried out so badly I was afraid to turn on the lights.

QotD: One Lump or Two?

How do you take your tea or coffee?
Submitted by Vasquez

I like my coffee blond, strong and sweet; just the same way I like my husband. Tea I like in different ways depending on the tea. Earl Grey I like with cream and sugar. Most black teas I like that way, but most others with a little spenda or honey.

Layer masks

yes, this is the first time I have tried them out.. could not figure them out before...

Anyway, someone pointed me in the direction of this tutorial on masks and now I have discovered the simple tasks I could have been doing with it like erasing things... and being able to fix the over erasing...

.. but I have also been playing with it for fun today because I needed something to do.. I find my creation a little creepy and I feel it took  a lot of skill but I had some fun playing, and getting an idea of what I can do with masks, and now I'm starting to understand how some things I've admired are accomplished.

QotD: Books From My Childhood

What books did you love as a child?

Submitted by hearts

I was, of course, obsessed with horses and so every time we got a book order with a horsey themed book on it.. that was the book I chose. my favorite one ever, was Can I Get There By Candlelight, by Jean Slaughter Doty  The story is about Gail, whose family rents what used to be the caretakers house on an old abandoned estate. While Gain is exploring the property with her horse Candlelight, Candy for short,  she finds an rusty gate that is the only way through or around a massive brick wall surrounding the old estate house and garden properties. When she oils the gate and rides through it she goes back in time. This was my favorite book I read it over and over and sometimes I still pull it out and read it. It was also my introduction to fantasy.. the gateway book into fantasy if you will.  It remains one of my favorite stories.

QotD: If I Had To Do It All Over Again

What's one thing you regret not doing?
Submitted by Mr. Nice.

There isn't much I regret on way or another...I believe who I am is a product of my experiences.. and it would be a shame to butterfly effect one of my kids out of existence... I do wish I'd known earlier like in college how much I enjoy taking pictures.. but.. there again maybe I'd have taken a different path after graduation... so , maybe I don't wish it...

QotD: I Bought This Just For You

Are you a re-gifter?  Have you ever re-gifted?
Submitted by Sandals.

I don't know if I have re-gifted anything.. I might have...  I know I have been re-gifted too, and really I don't care, if someone has a $40 bottle of perfume they have smelled and not liked and think I'll like, I'm ok with having it re-gifted to me.. I take no offense if the person thinks or knows I will like the re-gift. I might think differently if i was used for re-gifting like a trash can.

QotD: Pass The Dice

What is your favorite board game?
Submitted by I'm Unique.

Hmmm... I'm guessing Mah-Jongg  isn't considered a board game.. so I'll have to jump on the wagon with the many people who have said Clue. We had the old old version with the cartoon drawings, I like it better than the pictures.. but its nostalgic for me. And our lead pipe got lost so we had a twist tie for a lead pipe.. lol

We have the computer version and it wasn't until I played it with my husband that I got to be Miss Scarlet, my sister never would let me. :P

QotD: This Song Makes Me Festive

What song gives you the most holiday cheer?
Submitted by Roxy.

"O Holy Night" is my favorite Christmas song..  the  line "fall on your knees, hear the angel voices" for some reason moves me like no other Christmas carol.

For goofy holiday cheer? I like the song Pablo the reindeer that we sang in choir in high school.. ( i also love the 12 days after Christmas... but I cant sing it in front of the kids yet...).

The first day after Christmas, my true love and I had a fight.
And so I chopped the pear tree down and burned it just for spite.
Then, with a single cartridge, I shot that blasted partridge,
That my true love, my true love gave to me.

The second day after Christmas, I pulled on the old rubber gloves
And very gently wrung the necks of both the turtle doves,
My true love, my true love, my true love gave to me.

The third day after Christmas, my mother caught the croup;
I had to use the three French hens to make some chicken soup.
The four calling birds were a big mistake,
For their language was obscene .
The five gold rings were completely fake
And they turned my fingers green.

The sixth day after Christmas, the six laying geese wouldn't lay:
I gave the whole darn gaggle to the ASPCA.

On the seventh day what a mess I found:
All seven of the swimming swans had drowned,
My true love, my true love, my true love gave to me.

The eighth day after Christmas, before they could suspect,
I bundled up the . . .
Eight maids a-milking,
Nine pipers piping,
Ten ladies dancing,
'Leven lords a-leaping,
Twelve drummers drumming

Well, actually I kept one of the drummers

And sent them back collect.
I wrote my true love, "We are through, love"
And I said in so many words,
"Furthermore your Christmas gifts were for the birds!"
.........four calling birds, three french hens, two turtle doves
and a partridge in a pear tree

You know its time to drop a few pounds when...

... you put on your insulated Carhart overalls and resemble a toasted staypuff marshmallow man.....

yeah... The high temp yesterday was 24F, and the heavens dropped 8 inches of snow where I live. As we are out in the country and it was wind driven snow we have 2 foot drifts in places and bare grass in others.. the driveway is buried... Last week I washed my Carharts in preparation for winter. I bought this pair when I was working on a breeding farm.. and I had to buy them too big because the only pair short enough for me was too big. Well a few years and two children later.. they are not too big anymore....

They are in great shape.. although it would be simpler to buy a bigger pair, it would be cheaper and healthier to lose a few pounds... Besides I need to buy another blanket for the beast, so I'm better off dropping a few pounds and having the $ to put toward a horse blanket than having to buy myself new carharts.. (plus the kids need snow pants too....) thank God I got them snow boots last week, because I bet there aren't anymore in the stores now...

I however need gloves.. insulated gloves.. that I can spill water on and not freeze my fingers....I wonder if those are sold out...
